The mission of the study programme “Philology. Translation Studies. Audiovisual/Industry Translation” (Master’s degree) is to foster a new generation of translators and interpreters with a professional outlook, linguistic and cultural competences as well as the skills and confidence to meet the challenges of the local, regional and international translation markets for the years to come. It also aims to provide a comprehensive and in-depth study of multifaceted issues in translation.

Qualification: Master of Arts in Philology, Translator and Interpreter from/to English, Second foreign language (German / Spanish / French) and Third foreign language (German / Spanish / French / Russian), translators’ trainer.

Programme requirements (ECTS credits).

In accordance with the Standard on Higher Education set for the programme “Translation Studies. Audiovisual/Industry Translation” (Master’s degree), 90 ECTS credits are awarded in total. The curriculum of the programme “Translation Studies. Audiovisual/Industry Translation” (Master’s degree) incorporates: mandatory courses (37 ECTS credits) and elective courses (23,5 ECTS credits). Practical training which includes internship – 9 ECTS credits. The Final Examination comprises the Qualifying Examinations on Theory and Practice of Translation and Second and Third Foreign languages (4,5 ECTS credits). Masters’s thesis (16 ECTS credits).

Educational goals of the programme.

General goal of the study programme “Translation Studies. Audiovisual/Industry Translation” (Master’s degree) is to foster a new generation of translators and interpreters with a professional outlook, linguistic and cultural competences as well as the skills and confidence to meet the challenges of the local, regional and international translation markets for the years to come. It also aims to provide a comprehensive and in-depth study of multifaceted issues in translation.

The programme’s objectives are designed to:

  • ensure training of Masters in Philology “Translation Studies. Audiovisual/Industry Translation” using a competency-based approach to the education process in accordance with modern Europeaneducational standardsand requirements of thenational and globallabour market;
  • provide students withsystematicknowledge andskills in translation and interpreting required forformation of the competencesof Masterin Philology “Translation Studies (Audiovisual/Industry Translation)”;
  • train highly qualified translators that will be experts in establishing communication primarily among members of various cultures and languages to professionally meet current market demands and enable to adapt to the future needs of the translation market;
  • ensure a high level of competence in translation theory so that those holding a master’s degree will be able to form their own understanding of theoretical principles and assess them, apply them to their work, and identify and solve the problems that they will encounter in their work as professional translators;
  • develop graduates as mature social individuals capable of solving complex communications challenges and social activities within their competence;
  • improve thelearning skillsthat enablegraduates tocontinue their studyin accordancewith the concept of"lifelong learning" in a manner that may be largely self-directed or autonomous;
  • educate highly trained holders of master’s degrees and prepare them for further study at the doctoral level.
